The Doctor Returns

This weekend, The Doctor returned to the airwaves and it couldn’t of been better. The premiere was fantastic, and I can’t wait for the rest of the new series. After being so smitten with the premiere, obviously iPhone wallpapers were in order.

Over the course of the new series I’ll definitely be making more, but for now, here’s the first batch! Enjoy!

Miranda Lawson

Miranda

Like many others, I’m deeply in love with the Mass Effect universe. The games, the music, the books…the women. It doesn’t hurt that I’m also deeply in love with Yvonne Strahovski. Lucky for me, my two loves come together in the character of Miranda Lawson, who Strahovski portrays in Mass Effect 2.

Needless to say, when I saw the beautiful Mass Effect art Patryk Garrett created, Miranda’s stood out to me the most. Long story short, I wanted it as my iPhone wallpaper, so I made it happen. I had to do a bit of editing for it to display nicely on the lock screen, but the end result is sexy! Enjoy.

Dead Space for iPhone 4

When Alex Griendling (@GravityBomb) shared his amazing looking tribal Isaac Clarke mask, I was instantly interested in making his traditional inspired take into a modern sci-fi look. It’s like modernizing a demake of a modern piece. Confusing, I know.

I did two mashups, one with a derivative of Louie Mantia’s most recent Battlestar wallpaper, and another in space. I assume no credit for Mantia’s awesome background, or Alex’s awesome mask. All I did was make two great tastes taste great together…and add tons of effects.

Enjoy!

Christmas Spirit

This was the first Christmas that I’ve ever spent without some semblance of family. Spending it with both my parents was infrequent, but I spent Christmas with my Mom every single year. With my life changing after moving to San Francisco, the holiday is a bit…lonelier.

Thankfully my Mom and I got to exchange gifts via the iPhone 4’s FaceTime feature. I bought her an iPod touch when I moved and we spent our Christmas Eve video chatting and I opened the gifts she sent me. The best of which is this amazing Captain Rex helmet from The Clone Wars!

My Dad got me a couple of nice scarves, but the Captain Rex helmet blows any other gift away! I still have to get him an iPod touch so we can FaceTime too. Maybe for his birthday! :)

TRON Legacy Wallpaper Collection

It’s no secret that I’m a huge TRON fan, and that I’m eagerly awaiting TRON LEGACY this December. Due to my obsessions, I’ve been enjoying the various teaser images (most very difficult to find in high resolution) and putting them to use. I’ve made several TRON LEGACY wallpapers for iPhone 4 (or other portable devices) and I’m offering them here for download. I’ve put a significant amount of work into these, including removing tons of text from these images.

I hope you enjoy the work I’ve put into these, and I hope even more that you enjoy them on your devices. They look great on the retina display!

Feel free to download the entire collection in a zip file here, or click each individual wallpaper to download the full resolution version.

Enjoy! And tips welcome ;)

TRON LEGACY IPHONE 4 WALLPAPERS

Here I have for you a new TRON Legacy iPhone 4 wallpaper! This was taken from one of the original teaser posters, but I’ve recoloured it a bit to match the final colour schemes in the film. I hope you enjoy them!

And if you haven’t seen them before, take a look at my TRON Legacy Icon set, and TRON Legacy Wallpaper set too!

StarCraft 2 iPad Wallpaper

StarCraft 2 Preview Image

I’ve created a nifty StarCraft 2 iPad wallpaper for your consumption. Since we’re only a week away I figured it’s never too soon to celebrate.

This looks particularly cool as a home screen wallpaper. It compliments the icons quite well and makes the iPad look decidedly more sci-fi.

Enjoy!

Hulu+ And You

So the oft-rumored and highly anticipated “Hulu+” is going live ‘soon’ and will bring the huge video streaming service to tons of devices all over the country. These devices include Apple’s iPhone/iPod touch and iPad. I received my invite last night, and promptly did some test viewing to see how it held up.

In general, I’ve noticed that loading the app and all its content happens pretty quickly, over Wifi and 3G. The app will open and display all the content available at a very decent speed. It’s when you choose a video that the delays start.

I noticed between a 5-10 second pause every time I started a video, either on WiFi or 3G. This is almost ten seconds of a straight black screen, so I’m never quite sure if something froze or if its just loading. Once the black screen goes away, you see the typical network bumper, and then a “brought to you by” message. After that, either your show starts or a commercial plays. I’d say it has been about 50/50 for me. Maybe a bit more in the “video starts instantly” boat. I’ve also noticed that resuming your place in a video takes a little longer as well. It’ll either jump right to your spot after the initial messages, or will play the beginning for a few seconds before pausing and jumping ahead to where you left off.

On 3G I was more impressed than on WiFi. Videos loaded nearly as quickly as they did on Wifi, maybe even slightly faster believe it or not. The black “waiting” screen wasn’t as prevalent, and the video quality looked very smooth and impressive on the iPhone 4’s screen. It wasn’t super-HD quality, but for streaming off the cell network, onto a phone, I was pretty impressed.

So far, for having tested during the last 12 hours or so, I’d definitely say this has tons of potential. After all, it’s still in the “preview” period, and will only get better with time. I’m not saying this because it’s bad now, but because I can’t imagine how much better it’ll get in time. Loading up Fallon while at a stoplight and having it play pretty quickly on the fly was very cool. Having my iPad in bed and watching the latest Cleveland Show episode was very cool too. This service shows a lot of promise.

I took some comparison shots over the course of last night and this morning. They were taken under a few different conditions:

A. At home on Wifi.
B. At work on Wifi.
C. Out and about on 3G.

Here are some comparison screenshots of all the different conditions and devices. As I spend more time with the service I’ll continue to post my thoughts and more screenshots.
