Viva La Vita?
Preface Before the advent of the modern smartphone (the iPhone, really), portable gaming was something that only a select few gaming companies could pull off. In America, that was almost entirely Nintendo’s responsibility. The Gameboy’s many evolutions always proved to be the most exciting way to bring gaming outside your house, with things like the Sega GameGear, Neo Geo Pocket Color, Bandai’s...

The Big Forza 4 Problem…
Forza Motorsport 4 was released last week, and with it a brand new wireless racing wheel from Microsoft. This accessory was obviously a planned piece of the new Forza puzzle, being released on the same day and touting support for the title.  There are some downright shocking missteps regarding the wheel itself and its communication with the game, with blame falling on both Microsoft and Turn 10...

On Steve Jobs…
When I think about my life, and where I am…what I do…he’s responsible for the tools I use and the things I create. It’s hard not to cry. I think a lot of us, if not most of us, can say our lives have been greatly influenced by Steve’s work an incredible, immeasurable amount. Let’s remember him and aspire to change the world the way he helped to. Thanks Steve.

Presenting: Gears of War 3
(View Full Resolution) As you may or may not know, Epic’s Gears of War 3, the final in a trilogy, is coming out in mere days. I’m a big fan of the Gears of War series, Epic Games and NECA Toys, so another photo project was in order. My last gaming toy piece was also based on a game by Epic and a figure from NECA. That was my Presenting: Bulletstorm piece. This time, I wanted to...

The Journey
Ok so not really $100 Billion, but still. I’m at the end of my most recent journey…a journey that has ended in a wonderful opportunity and something I’m quite proud of. Here’s the lowdown: I was let go from TinyCo in May. It was a shock to me. I didn’t see it coming, I had no warnings or guidance about it at all. Looking back, it was probably for the best. TinyCo...

This would sharpen you up and make you ready for…
I’ve put together my first piece that I’ll be getting printed and selling. Based on Stanley Kubrick’s A Clockwork Orange, one of my favorite films. It’s going to be done as a three-color silk-screened print on some nice French Paper. I’m trying to gauge interest for orders, to see if it’s worth the initial investment. There probably won’t be many made,...

I Love Amazon…
Every time I’ve ever had an interaction with Amazon’s customer support, about anything, they’ve excelled at making me feel like a customer they respect and appreciate. They take steps they don’t need to, and they strive to make things right…every time. There really isn’t more you can ask for from a company. I will happily continue my Prime subscription until I die! ...

In Response To Brink…
I’m afraid this “zero hour” patch Splash Damage implemented hasn’t fixed any of the problems in the 360 version of the game. Even though I ripped the disc to the hard drive, the game still takes several seconds to load textures in at all times. If I make a 90 degree turn and then turn back, all textures had disappeared and needs to take another 10 seconds to load. This happens at a consistent...

Droids for Sale
Hello! I’ve got some cute stuff here for sale. I’ve been tracking down these elusive Android mini collectibles for about a year and I finally managed to order some. I got about two cases in and have several duplicates to sell! A couple are common (2 in 16 pieces), one is rare (1 in 16 pieces), and the Cyanogen Droid is an ultra-rare piece, not listed on the box or booklets. I was...

The Doctor Returns
This weekend, The Doctor returned to the airwaves and it couldn’t of been better. The premiere was fantastic, and I can’t wait for the rest of the new series. After being so smitten with the premiere, obviously iPhone wallpapers were in order. Over the course of the new series I’ll definitely be making more, but for now, here’s the first batch! Enjoy! Miranda Lawson
Like many others, I’m deeply in love with the Mass Effect universe. The games, the music, the books…the women. It doesn’t hurt that I’m also deeply in love with Yvonne Strahovski. Lucky for me, my two loves come together in the character of Miranda Lawson, who Strahovski portrays in Mass Effect 2. Needless to say, when I saw the beautiful Mass Effect art Patryk Garrett...

Presenting: Bulletstorm
One of my favorite things to take photos of are my various action figures and collectibles. I’ve taken and uploaded plenty before, and it’s something I intend to keep doing. Most of the photos I’ve taken so far have been “portraits” or non-action shots. Action shots are something I’ve wanted to try, but haven’t really figured out quite yet. This brings...

That's a Phoney Sparrow!
I tried Sparrow for Mac for the first time yesterday, and I’m smitten. It’s easily my favorite Mail client. Considering my email goes through Google Apps, this works absolutely perfectly. It looks great, it’s super fast and lightweight, and…well…that’s enough, isn’t it? Now that it’s earned a spot in my dock, I obviously had to make a Phoney icon. So here it...

Twitterrific 4 Initial Reactions
Having used the new version of Twitterrific for a few hours, I have a few immediate reactions that I’d like to point out. Overall, I’m very impressed with the new version. There are some weird choices IMO, the sidebar being one of them. The fact that Trends and Lists aren’t collapsable is odd. However, the weirdest things are things that Iconfactory “intentionally”...

Star Wars: Visions
Star Wars: Visions is a book comprised of gorgeous interpretations of varying Star Wars characters and scenes. Comprised of work from a pool of over 100 artists, it’s an engaging look into the inspiration the Star Wars saga has provided.  I’ve taken some of my favorite pieces from the collection and created iPhone 4 wallpapers for you to enjoy. Obviously this isn’t my work,...

Dead Space for iPhone 4
When Alex Griendling (@GravityBomb) shared his amazing looking tribal Isaac Clarke mask, I was instantly interested in making his traditional inspired take into a modern sci-fi look. It’s like modernizing a demake of a modern piece. Confusing, I know. I did two mashups, one with a derivative of Louie Mantia’s most recent Battlestar wallpaper, and another in space. I assume no credit...

A Brief History in Video Form
A couple of years ago, when my friends and I all lived in the Garden of Eden, we had tons of spare time on our hands. We spent this time doing lots of hard drugs, and also making short films. Focused on comedy, we made a few video blogs, a couple of one offs, and a pair of video game related videos that garnished a bit of recognition. “Good Morning, iPhone” was something we...

Phoney for Twitter for Mac
With the launch of the Mac App Store today, Twitter for Mac launched as well. It’s a fantastic update/replacement for Tweetie Mac. Loren & Co. have hit it out of the park, and as usual, I want to compliment their work with a piece of my own. I present to you a Twitter for Mac Phoney icon. Created with Twitter’s strict guidelines in mind ;-) Enjoy! Download

Christmas Spirit
This was the first Christmas that I’ve ever spent without some semblance of family. Spending it with both my parents was infrequent, but I spent Christmas with my Mom every single year. With my life changing after moving to San Francisco, the holiday is a bit…lonelier. Thankfully my Mom and I got to exchange gifts via the iPhone 4’s FaceTime feature. I bought her an iPod touch when I...

Since Reeder for Mac’s beta is now public (and really kickass), I obviously needed a Phoney icon. Hell, I didn’t even realize it was out until Josh Bryant asked me for a custom icon!  Well I’m glad he asked, because now I’m using the nicest RSS reader I’ve played with. And I’ve made a cool looking icon! Enjoy, M Download Zip File

And then one day…
Sam: “You got in?” Kevin: “I got in!” Flynn did get in, and created something quite spectacular. The same can be said for the entire cast and crew of TRON: Legacy. It was an amazing audio/visual masterpiece. Obviously it helped that I attended an official Dolby Labs 7.1 screening with extra speakers set up by Dolby themselves. That, and official Dolby 3D glasses made...

GoldenEye 007 (N64)  Special Soundtrack Release 60 Tracks in MP3 Format  I randomly wanted to listen to this soundtrack and found there was no coherent release available online. TRON Legacy Deluxe Figures - COOL AS HECK
Part of the allure of TRON is the focus on the future and technology more advanced than we know it. Lightcycles, Identity Discs, Recognizers; it’s all part of a video game world that’s way more futuristic than ours. So naturally, Disney wanted to do something similar with the TRON toy line. Much like Avatar’s “augmented reality” toy cards, the TRON figures pack an...

TRON Legacy Wallpaper Collection
It’s no secret that I’m a huge TRON fan, and that I’m eagerly awaiting TRON LEGACY this December. I’ve made several TRON LEGACY wallpapers for iPhone 4 (or other portable devices) and I’m offering them here for download....

My Email to Best Buy about my TV:
Hi there, I bought a 42” Samsung DLP TV (Model #:hl s4266w) on 08/08/06. I also purchased the Product Service Plan. I’ve used and loved this TV since I got it. This August, when the warranty was due to expire, I decided to call the Geek Squad for a replacement bulb. I’ve been told DLP bulbs should be replaced every two years. So I called and scheduled a replacement. Best Buy...

Precious Items For Sale!
Along with my move to San Francisco, I’ve come across some things I’d like to sell off. I’ll be updating this list as I find more stuff, so there will probably be a bit more soon. San Francisco
It’s been a very difficult few days because I’ve forced myself to keep quiet. The Journey of Mattcraft…
I’ve recently become quite smitten with a little game called “Minecraft”. It’s a simple yet deep game of quite humble origins. One man has been coding for little over a year, and his product is snowballing into heavy recognition. Word is Minecraft has already broke $2 million in profits. It’s a true indie story. Having played several hours of the game, and falling...

Where were you in 1998? (In celebration of...
I was 12, and in middle school. I remember coming into English and the son of the teacher (who was in my class) was playing StarCraft on one of the old Macs. It didn’t run very well (it’s a Mac, har har) but I remember seeing it and being blown away. It was like watching Star Wars from the ground or something similar. Gruff space battles with dreary music and dark over/undertones. It...

So the oft-rumored and highly anticipated “Hulu+” is going live ‘soon’ and will bring the huge video streaming service to tons of devices all over the country. Medical Misery
As some of you may or may not know, I’ve been through a lot of health problems over the last several years. Dating back from 2000 to 2008 I had countless doctor’s appointments and six surgeries on my back. The first few were due to a cyst, and the rest were for herniated discs and pinched vertebrae.  The majority of my teen life was spent in hospitals, at doctors offices, and...

Saying Goodbye To An Old Friend…
Today I had to do something tough, say goodbye to an old friend. I got Lucky (or brother, hermano, dude, old man, he had many nicknames) over ten years ago. We adopted him from our barber who was moving in with her boyfriend, and he was allergic. She warned us that he could be kind of an asshole. She was right. Lucky was full of piss and vinegar, he bit people, knocked over full cups of...
